Why commit to workable work?

Workable work is about being physically and mentally healthy and satisfied at your job. For example, you may like your job, but it is not always workable. Workable work consists of 4 basic characteristics: work stress, motivation, learning opportunities and work-life balance. Below you can read what this means for each characteristic.

  1. Preventing overwork: work should be structured so that it does not lead to excessive stress and pressure in employees. Here we look at managing work pressure and creating a balanced work environment.
  2. Job satisfaction and motivation: work can bring joy and motivation. This involves employees performing tasks that challenge, interest and satisfy them.
  3. Learning opportunities: work should provide you with opportunities to stay up-to-date and continue to develop yourself in a rapidly changing work world or VUCA environment. This can be done by offering and encouraging training, continuing education and personal growth.
  4. Work-life balance: in addition, work should leave enough room for a healthy balance between your professional and personal life. This requires flexibility in working hours and support for employees to balance their personal and professional obligations.

Workable work is not only important for the well-being and satisfaction of your employees, but it also contributes to the productivity and success of your organization by retaining motivated staff and creating a positive work environment. With the action plan 'Together a gear higher for workable work', the Flemish government wants to encourage and support organizations to identify workable work and improve working conditions.
