Taking care of yourself is part of running a business
Self-employed people are resilient, driven and take responsibility, but we also see that mental pressure can build up unnoticed. There is no HR department to fall back on, so we are getting more and more questions: What can I do? What does it cost? Can I deduct it? Is it preventive, or only for when things go wrong? Time for a clear overview:

Mental support for the self-employed: how does it work?
Self-employed people are resilient and driven, and they take responsibility.
But precisely because so much ends up on their shoulders, we see that mental pressure can build up without anyone noticing.
There is no HR department to fall back on and no colleague to step in for a while. There are deadlines, clients, uncertainty and the constant question: "How long can I keep this up?"
That is why more and more self-employed people ask us at BloomUp:
What can I do? What does it cost? Can I claim it as an expense? Is this preventive, or only for when things go wrong?
Time for a clear overview:
1. Growth Tracks: working on your wellbeing preventively
As a self-employed person, you can easily start preventively, before any issues escalate. Growth Tracks are ideal for this: digital tracks on topics such as stress, sleep, focus and communication. They help you take a moment to reflect on your mental wellbeing, with exercises, insights and practical tools.
You can buy each Growth Track separately. Unfortunately, they are not tax-deductible. You can find all our Growth Tracks here.
If you are a member of Xerius, you can get free access to these Growth Tracks via this link. The accompanying tests and self-assessments also give you a quick picture of where you stand today and what might need your attention.
For self-employed people who want to work preventively (alone or with a small team), this is often an easy first step.
2. Conversations: coaching or therapy
Sometimes working on your own is not enough, and you want to talk your situation through with a professional. That is perfectly possible as a self-employed person too, through coaching or therapy. There are 2 options:
a. B2B consultation (through your business)
This option is best suited to work-related topics such as stress, leadership, setting boundaries, communication or dealing with pressure.
- €100 per consultation
- Not VAT-exempt, but:
- the VAT is fully recoverable
- 25% professional: can be claimed as a business expense
- 75% the psychologist's share: cannot be claimed as an expense
Paying through your business: how it works in practice
Many self-employed people wonder: "Can I pay for this through my company?"
The answer is: yes, provided it is split correctly.
In practice, this means:
- you receive one clear invoice
- part is deductible and part is not (as explained above)
- you work with credits, for example 5 consultations × €100
- payment is made up front (B2B), through a separate organization
- it can be processed correctly and transparently in your accounts
We take care of clear invoicing, so you do not have to worry about it.
b. B2C consultation (private)
If you prefer a fully private track, that is possible too.
People often choose this option when work and private life are closely intertwined, or when they deliberately want a strictly private track.
- VAT-exempt
- not through your business, entirely personal
